What is Posterior Capsular Opacification?

During cataract surgery all of the cataract is removed except for a thin transparent layer called the posterior capsule (PC). This layer is deliberately left in place as it provides support for the lens implant that is put in the eye to replace the cataract. However, over time the PC can become cloudy and impair the vision.
